The 2009 Miles for Myeloma 5k is a regional event coordinated and presented by the members of the Philadelphia Multiple Myeloma Networking Group, the Central New Jersey and Northern New Jersey Multiple Myeloma Support Groups. Each of the committee members volunteer countless hours of time and energy to make the event successful and fun!
Who are the event beneficiaries?
Proceeds from the event will benefit the research initiatives of the International Myeloma Foundation and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Financial Assistance Program for Myeloma patients. Each organization is dedicated to improving the quality of life for myeloma patients while working towards prevention and a cure. Most importantly, they continue to fund the most promising research initiatives worldwide and are committed to providing the most up to date & in-depth information about multiple myeloma to patients, caregivers and medical professionals..
Will Martin Luther King Drive Jr. be closed to traffic?
Yes, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6am- 5pm on Saturday, April 24, 2010.
Where can I park?
Street parking is available in and around the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Ben Franklin Parkway. There is a public parking lot directly across from the front steps of the Art Museum located within Eakins Oval. There will be no access to the start/finish point by car as the entrance to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will be closed.
Are volunteers able to register and solicit pledges?
Yes! Volunteers are strongly encouraged to register for the event as well as solicit pledges for their volunteer time. A pledge sheet is available under the registration section of the website.
How do I make a donation if I cannot attend the event and/or wish to support an individual or team?
You can donate online to the Miles for Myeloma 5k event by going to Active.com and following the instructions on donating to an individual or team. You can also mail-in a donation by sending the attached form to the Miles for Myeloma 5k. Please make the check payable to PMMNG 5k and be sure to include your name, address and phone number as well as if the donation is to be credited to a particular person or team.
The Course
The 5k Run/Walk will kick off from the South Lawn of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive just west of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Eakins Oval in Philadelphia. The out and back course is flat and runs along the Schuylkill River with scenic views of the historic Boathouse row. This course is USA Track and Field/RRTC Certified.
